Yes, but medication administration is strictly monitored to ensure every child’s safety and wellbeing.
Wherever possible, parents are encouraged to administer medication at home.
If this is not possible, only prescribed medication will be administered by qualified educators.
Medication can only be administered when:
1. The medication has the original pharmacist dispensing label
OR a doctor’s letter detailing:
2. Child’s name.
3. Dosage.
4. Frequency.
5. Method of administration.
6. Families complete and sign the Authority to Give Medication Form in OWNA.
7. Medication is handed directly to the Service Supervisor.
(Medication must not be left in children’s bags)
Over-the-counter medication will not be administered unless:
• It has been prescribed by a doctor, and
• The Authority to Give Medication Form is completed.
If emergency paracetamol is required to reduce a high temperature and families need more than one hour to collect their child:
• An Incident & Illness Form will be completed.
• A medical clearance will be required before the child returns.
